Tribute

Mamá Lucia

Today we honor the life of Ana Lucia Munoz;

Our Dearest Mamá Lucia.

We honor her with our tears of sorrow as she leaves us. We honor her with our tears of joy as we remember how much she meant to us.

Ana Lucia Muñoz, 94, of Kissimmee, Florida passed away on September 18, 2019 peacefully at her home. Lucia was born January 7, 1925, in San Jose de Las Matas, Santiago, Dominican Republic, to Emilio and Juana Francisca Nunez.

Lucia is survived by her 11 children, Sor Visitacion, Maria, Jose, Antonia, Benny, Max, Tony, Maria Magdalena, Danny, Joselito, David; 29 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Lucia was a devoted and faithful wife; married to Jose Benito Munoz from 1942 until his passing in 1997.

She was a loving, gentle, yet strong mother; the consummate matriarch who worked for decades on behalf of her children; so that they could prosper and reap the benefits of her labor. The ability to persevere came from her  tireless work ethic. She serves as a model of the type of fortitude that challenges us to remain productive and diligent in all aspects of our own lives.

Lucia was devotedly Catholic and attended church almost daily. She carried prayer beads around her neck, and the love of God around her heart at all times. Although she dreamed that all her children would be priests and nuns some day, she was instead blessed with an ever growing and fruitful family to keep her busy as well as bring her joy for the remainder of her life.

Mamá Lucia was an abuela that always received her grandchildren with open arms, a warm smile, and a blessing;  and rest assured her grandchildren would never be allowed to depart from her without a small token of her undying affection, which usually came in the form of a couple bucks or a rainbow lollipop discreetly tucked into their pockets.

She was stubbornly selfless. Mamá Lucia would follow in the footsteps of her Savior, as she became our own sacrificial lamb, time and time again. She never hesitated to give away her last crumpled dollar, or her last morsel of food for us. She wanted to see us happy, that’s all. She took joy in watching us smile. That was our gift, this was our Mama Lucia who we will never forget.

Lucia was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Benito; and daughter Sor Celeste.
