Tribute

Charles Eugene "Gene" Moore, age 61, of Kissimmee, Florida passed away on May 12, 2020.

Our family is immeasurably saddened to announce the passing of Charles E. “Gene” Moore, Jr. To know Gene was to love him. Describing himself as an “Eagle Scout; Poet; Son; Brother; Husband; Father; Grandfather; Real Estate Broker; Scoundrel; Lawyer.”, Gene was many things to many people and touched many lives.

Gene was born to Donna Brady Moore and Charles E. Moore, Sr., on January 24, 1959, at a US Army base in Valparaiso, Indiana. His family soon returned to Fort Pierce, Florida, where his father’s family resided. Gene and his brother, William Edward, and sister, Caroline Christine, spent a happy early childhood there. His family moved to Kissimmee, Florida in 1968, where his father and grandfather, Charles C. Moore, opened Osceola Land Company.

He met Valarie Jackson at Osceola High School and they were married on August 27, 1977. Together, Gene and Valarie raised four wonderful children: Jennifer Moore Miller, married to Brian; Andrea Moore Hewitt, married to Bill; Charles Stephen “Bubba” Moore, and Thomas Daniel “Jake” Moore. Gene and Valarie also have three delightful grandchildren: Harper Hewitt, Hattie Hewitt, and Jackson Miller. Gene is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother, and sister.

Gene followed his father and grandfather into the real estate business at the age of 18, and was an active broker his entire life. At the age of 41, Gene decided to return to school. He started at Valencia College, earning two degrees. He then enrolled at Rollins College, where he earned his Bachelors in English and discovered a love for reading and writing poetry. Gene then pursued and was accepted to law school. He graduated from FAMU College of Law in 2011 and was accepted to the Florida Bar in 2012, achieving his lifelong goal of becoming an attorney. His thirst for knowledge never quenched, he then received his Masters of Law in Elder Law from Stetson University.

Gene served his community in various roles and always followed his natural instinct to help those in need. He had served on the Osceola County Board of Adjustments, Osceola County Planning and Zoning Board, the Professional Standards Committee of the Osceola County Board of Realtors, and as Vice Chairman of the Osceola Housing Finance Authority. Establishing his own practice in 2012, The Law Offices of Charles E. Gene Moore, Jr., P.A., he was able to take on cases that piqued his interest and those where he could help make a difference in peoples’ lives. In 2019, Gene was named Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year by Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida.

He was always for the underdog; always interested in a person’s story, their struggle. He loved people. He loved sharing a good story. He loved his hounds. He loved his Kissimmee, land of the wonderfully surreal. Above all else, Gene loved spending time with his family. We love him deeply, we will miss him dearly, and we will think of him always.

A private family service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider contributing to Gene’s charitable foundation, Threads of Indigo. Contributions are tax deductible and may be sent to 22 N Beaumont Ave, Kissimmee, FL 34741.
