Della Ellen Samuel received her best and final Christmas gift December 25, 2021 when she went to Jesus. on November 17, 1920, she had just passed her 101st birthday. She led an amazing life. Born in Yampa, Colorado, her family traveled to Oregon in a stake body truck when she was 11. At 13, she moved to St. Joseph, Missouri where she graduated beauty School and met her future husband, Malvin Samuel. After a short long distance courtship, Della moved to Kissimmee to marry Malvin in 1937. Shortly after she switched careers to nursing and trained at the old Kissimmee Hospital.
She had two daughters, Janice DeMond and Sharon Ascherman, three grandchildren, Kristina and Timothy DeMond, and Shelley Espe, five great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. There were many more who Della considered family and called her grammee.
She loved family outings, dinners and teaching others about her rocks and gems. We all grew up with a love for digging in the dirt for our own gems. Being raised on a ranch, she loved horses, so joining the Silver Spurs Riding Club in the 1940's came naturally. She wore many hats over the years including, nurse to the cowboys and clowns. In 2012 she was honored with the Women's Lifetime Achievement Award. Her church was a very important part of Della's life. If you were at her house on Sunday, you went to church. She was a life long member of the Christian Church in Kissimmee and Saint Cloud. She loved cooking, gardening both flowers, vegetables, camping and hiking. There wasn't much she wouldn't try especially if her family was along. She was one of a kind.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Osceola Memory Gardens Cemetery with Minister Jim Book of Kissimmee Christian Church officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
