Jay R. Gorberg, age 65, of Poinciana, FL passed away on February 9, 2019. Jay was born on October 13, 1953 in the Bronx, NY to Seymour and Selma Gorberg. He was a retired law enforcement police Sergeant in New York and retired to Poinciana, Florida.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Gorberg; Sons, Jason Gorberg (Christy) of Ocoee, and Adam Gorberg of St. Petersburg; Grandfather of Jacob Gorberg. He is preceded in death by brothers Bernard Gorberg and Ronald Gorberg.
Jay began his career in New York state corrections, before going to work with his brothers in blue at the NYPD (New York Police Department) from 1980 to 1982 as a police officer. He finished his career with the Town of Southampton Police Department on Long Island N.Y. where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. He retired in 2000 after being seriously injured in the line of duty. Jay was also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
There are many memorable stories about Jay that we can tell, among them is a story that brings a smile to the faces of those who knew him. One weekend the wives joined their spouses for a fun filled weekend of hunting and shopping. You see Jay thought he was a hunter. He would walk into the woods with his fellow hunters only to have the deer walk out the other side of the woods. This you can not make up. The spouses were unable to let the guys know what was happening so they made sure they brought dinner back.
Jay was a man of high integrity who always cared deeply for his family and all those who came in his path of life. Overall, he had a great love for life. Although Jay R. Gorberg has left us, he leaves behind fond memories for all those who knew him. Smile, laugh and remember only the happy times because that is exactly what he would want.
