Tribute

Jerry Koger, 85, of Kissimmee, Florida, passed away peacefully to his heavenly home on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, joining his parents Lucille and Jack Koger, sister Nina Sue Fisher, and daughter-in-law Tracy Koger.

Jerry was born in Kissimmee on October 9, 1932 and graduated from Osceola High School in 1950. He played professional baseball with the St. Louis Browns in 1950 until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1952 for two years and in Army Reserve for 18 years. Jerry married Barbara Bass on August 1, 1953 and had two children, Debbie and Derrick. Jerry then became an officer with the Kissimmee Police Department for two years, followed by a 31-year career with Independent Life Insurance Company. He later worked maintenance at Good Samaritan and with his son Derrick’s construction company until he fully retired in 2006.

Jerry enjoyed sports, hunting, telling jokes, and hand-crafting his widely recognized fly fishing popping bugs, “Koger Bugs”. He also enjoyed mornings with good friends over breakfast at Joanie’s Diner in downtown Kissimmee.

Jerry’s pride and joy in life was his family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Koger, daughter Debbie Hoenstine(Clarence Hoenstine), son Derrick Koger(Jody Koger), grandchildren Julie Findzhikov(Yanko), Chad Hoenstine, Nicholas Koger(Kim), and Tiffani Goodman(Dustin), and his great-grandchildren Breana Hoenstine, Ashley Hoenstine, Christian Mantuano, Maddie Mantuano, C.J. Hoenstine, Mariya Findzhikov, Keelyn Flynn, Kaden Koger, Jacob Goodman, and Joshua Goodman

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 11:00 am at Bible Baptist Church, 1500 E. Irlo Bronson Hwy, Kissimmee, FL 34744, with the Reverend Joe Williams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior the service time (10A.M.-11A.M.) in the church.
Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Osceola County Veterans Council.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bible Baptist Church, 1500 E. Irlo Bronson Hwy, Kissimmee, FL 34744.
