Joseph Paul Chila, 76, Champions Gate, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2018 after a 2 year battle with lung cancer. He was born on November 27, 1941, in Greenwich, CT, son of the late Anthony C. and Clare (Calvert) Chila. Paul, as he preferred to be called, grew up in Altoona, PA and was an altar boy at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, attending the parish elementary school. The family later moved to Stamford, CT where he graduated from Stamford High School.
He entered the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation and was honorably discharged on July 16, 1963. He was always proud of his service to our country and instilled a strong sense of patriotism in his children and grandchildren.
He was a store manager for Pathmark Super Markets in New York and Connecticut for many years. After moving to Florida in 2000, he worked on various golf courses in the Lakeland area. He was an avid golfer, taught each of his 10 grandchildren the proper way to hold and swing a golf club and passed his love of the game to all them. He also enjoyed watching the Yankees, reading history and solving crossword puzzles. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Celebration.
He is survived by his wife Christine; children, Jennifer Conciatore of Ridgefield, CT, and Matthew (Tara) of Danbury, CT; stepsons, John Kraska (Nicole) of Charleston, SC and Thaddeus Kraska (Julie) of Chesterfield, VA; grandchildren, Christian, Shane and Michael Conciatore; Remy, Dominic, Olivia and Adam Chila; Matthew, Carter and Jackson Kraska; brothers, Peter (Marie), Anthony Jr. (Becky), Philip (Jane), and Michael (Anne); sisters, JoClare Grammont, Justine Robichaud, and Marian Lemanski (Bernard); nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 8 Robinson Ave., Danbury, CT.
