Tribute

Leota Faye Abdou (“Lee” and “Sweetpea”) went to be with the Lord on November 30, 2020, after a battle with cancer, she was surrounded by her loving family. Lee was born in Corbin, Kentucky in 1940, the daughter of Wilton Lee and Dorothy Maurine Purkey Scalf. Her first job as a young girl was at the original Kentucky Fried Chicken with Colonel Harland Sanders. After marrying Dr. Fathy A. Abdou, she moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia and worked as an office manager at her husband’s medical practice.

As a devoted mother and faithful Christian, Lee was very involved in her children’s lives by teaching Sunday School, leading Girl Scouts, and participating in many community activities. Lee had a very giving spirit. She expressed her love of people, country, animals, and community by contributing to several charitable organizations. Lee also loved to travel the world, but her heart was in the Holy Land and returned there several times. Being there gave her peace and made her feel close to Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. Everyone Lee met was uplifted by her joyful and positive spirit. She will be greatly missed."
