Tribute

RAMSEY, MARIAN E, 89, of Kissimmee, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019. Born February 4, 1930 in Carrol County, Maryland, she was the youngest of Paul and Ruth Dixon Halter’s two daughters.  Marian graduated from Fairmont State College in 1951 where she majored in educational studies and later attended graduate school at New York University.  In 1952, she moved to Lake City, Florida where she began her career as an educator and where she also met the love of her life, her husband, Henry Ramsey (fondly remembered as “Coach" Ramsey by his students at Osceola High School).  The two moved to the Kissimmee area from Lake City in 1954.
After a few years taking care of her young sons, Marian, or “Mrs. Ramsey” as she was known to her thousands of students, began a thirty-year-long career as an educator at Osceola Junior High School/Beaumont Middle School, where she taught physical education.  To this day she is remembered by her students as a beacon of kindness, a woman of integrity, and an original role model.  For many students, Marian transcended the role of teacher and became family.
Always dedicated to her community, Marian was a lifetime member of the Silver Spurs Club, where she is fondly remembered serving patrons behind the west concession stand.  For her contributions, the Silver Spurs Club honored Marian in 2007 with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Lifetime Honorary member of the Florida Sheriffs Association Marian also was a member of the Florida Cattlewomen’s Association, which named her Osceola Cattlewoman in 1993.  She served on the Scholarship Committee for the association in recent years.  Marian was also a faithful member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kissimmee.
Beyond her dedication as a teacher and community leader, Marian was a life long animal lover - often entertaining others with stories of her cat “Tilt,” or her very spoiled cow, appropriately named "Princess.”
Marian will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Marian is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry Ramsey, and is survived by her sister, Charlotte Iacona and family; sons, William "Bill" H., Bruce E. and wife, Michelle, and Paul R. “Randy";  grandchildren, Scott and wife, Laurel, Kyle, and Kristin; and great-grandson, Reyce.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1603 N. Thacker Avenue, Kissimmee, Florida 34741, with the Reverend Father Jorge Torres, as Celebrant. Interment to follow at Osceola Memory Gardens Cemetery.
