Pearl U. (Rock) Allen was born the 6th child of Walter Nathaniel and Ermie Althea Rock on February 9, 1930 in Boston MA. She attended Boston Trade High School where she received her certification in Dressmaking, Millinery, Tailoring and Power stitching. At an early age Pearl accepted the plan of salvation and was baptized in Jesus name.

Throughout her life she traveled to church conventions driving across country where she met many individuals who became life-long friends. Pearl was gifted as well as an accomplished pianist. From an early age she played the piano and organ at the Faithful Church of Christ Church and later became the choir director. Throughout her life she willingly shared her talents at many churches of various denominations from Boston to Detroit Michigan.

On June 9, 1956 she was joined in marriage to George H. Allen at the historical Charles Street AME Church on Warren Street in Roxbury, officiated by her Pastor, Elder Ethelbert Payne.

For several years she worked in the Boston’s Garment District and eventually started her own business “Pearl Allen’s Bridal Shop.” With the encouragement of her most admired friend Elma Lewis, she consented to join the faculty as a Costuming Teacher for over three decades. Pearl was recognized for her extraordinary talent in Costume design portrayed in the school's ballet and theatre programs as well as the organ preludes that enhanced the annual off-Broadway production of show Black nativity.

After establishing her business Pearl matriculated to the University of Massachusetts, Boston where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 1982. Following that she was employed in the Boston Public School system until she retired.

Pearl will always be remembered for the countless custom made Weddings, Prom-Gowns, Choir Robes and Ministerial robes she designed through the years.
