Rodney Lewis Schmidt, 76, of Kissimmee, Florida passed away August 31, 2020 of liver cancer. A member of a Pioneer Osceola County family Rodney was born July 4, 1944 in Orlando, Florida, the son of Carl M. and Betty Mae Schmidt, and was a lifelong Osceola County resident. Rodney was a graduate of Osceola High School Class of 1963, and married his high school sweetheart, Heidi J. Riggs in 1965. Rodney worked for the Florida Telephone Company, presently named Century Link and retired after 36 years of service with the telephone company and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church Kissimmee and served the church in several capacities.
Rodney served in the United States Marine Corp from 1966-1968, spending most of this time in Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife: Heidi Schmidt of Kissimmee, FL., son: Matthew (Dana) Schmidt of St. Cloud, FL., daughter: Melissa (Hal) Epperson of Kissimmee, FL., 3 grandchildren: Trey Epperson, Elly Schmidt and Molly Schmidt; 2 great grandchildren: Jacob Epperson and Riley Mae Epperson.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church, Kissimmee, with Pastor Tim Wilder officiating.
Visitation with family will be one hour prior service time (10A.M.-11:00 A.M.) at the church.
Full military honors will be accorded by Osceola County Veterans Council.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either First Baptist Church of Kissimmee or the Pre-School Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Kissimmee.
PLEASE, because of the recent pandemic, necessary precautionary measures will need to be taken, SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE REQUIRED as well as WEARING A FACE MASK.
