Tribute

Wilbert John "Will" Collins, 94 of Kissimmee, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022 in St. Cloud, Florida. A member of a Pioneer Osceola County family he was born in Kissimmee, Florida, July 29, 1927, the son of John D. Collins and Eula Collins Brown. He lived here his entire life except for a few years in South Orlando and 10 years in the Florida Keys. He attended Osceola High School and was very active in almost all sports, especially football, baseball and track. During his senior year he enlisted in the Merchant Marines. Upon returning to Osceola County he played for the Golden Brahmas, a semi-pro football team. He was a heavy equipment operator working in construction sites before he began working for the Road and Bridge Department where he went on to become the Superintendent for the County. He was married to Dorothy for 47 years. Some of his happiest times were their 10 years spent while managing a commercial fishing supply store in Marathon, FL. It was the perfect environment for someone who loved fishing. They would go fishing on their boat named “WillDo” and had lobster and crab traps for some great eating!
Even after they retired and returned to Kissimmee, he remained an avid sportsman. He was always on the lake fishing or in the woods hunting deer or turkey any chance he had. He took great pride in knowing some of his catch was served at The Catfish Place. Friday nights during football season were devoted to his beloved Osceola Kowboys. He never missed a home game and attended as many away games as possible. He was a member of the Osceola Kowboys Booster Club and the Osceola Touchdown Club. He loved watching them play and he was recognized several times during half time for his dedication to the school. While Fridays were for the Kowboys, Saturdays were for watching Florida Gators football. He especially enjoyed going to The Swamp with his son, John, to watch them play. Will also belonged to the Jacob Summerlin Camp 1516 – Sons of the Confederate Veterans, and the Gardner Hunting Club. Will was a proud Osceola County boy and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
