Isaac Allen Charlton died at his home in Kissimmee, FL on Saturday, April 8th, 2017. He was 93.
Mr. Charlton was born on March 31, 1924 in Haines Township near Cartter, IL to Orville Pierce and Myrtle Ethel Shelton Charlton. He graduated in 1941 from Salem High School in Salem, IL. After serving in the United States Navy in WWII, he graduated from Dartmouth College in 1946 with a degree in History and later graduated from the University of Illinois with a master’s degree in Education. He moved to Kissimmee, FL in 1947 where he worked at Osceola High School as a math teacher. There he met his future wife, Joan von Dohlen, and the couple was married in Jacksonville, FL on July 1, 1956. Mr. Charlton taught mathematics in Osceola County Schools until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Charlton was a member of First Christian Church in Kissimmee, FL. He loved gardening, playing softball, doing crossword puzzles, being at the beach, reading, and being with his family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. His love and devotion to his family was infinite.
He is survived by his 5 children, Ann (Kevin) Skidmore of Ringgold, GA, Janet Barnett of Lakeland, FL, Karen Charlton of Port St. Lucie, FL, David (Dona) Charlton of Niceville, FL, and John (Amanda) Charlton of Columbia, SC, brother Carl (Donna) Charlton of Kell, IL, sister-in-law Vera Charlton of Salem, IL, 11 grandchildren, Paul Allen (Stella Pierce) Fornes, Katrina (Keith) Wagner, Chelsea Skidmore, Ryan Satterfield, Jacob Fornes, Jared Barnett, Cory Skidmore, Samuel Charlton, Isaac Charlton, Ansley Charlton, and Emma Charlton, 4 great-grandsons, Hunter Wagner, Pierce Fornes, Harrison Wagner, Charlton Fornes, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Charlton was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joan Charlton, his parents, Orville and Myrtle Charlton, four brothers, Leroy Charlton, Reuben Charlton, Eddie Charlton, and Ted Charlton, and three sisters, Gertrude Williams, Irma Garner, and Edith Raguse.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6 p.m.to 8 p.m. at Conrad & Thompson Funeral Home, 511 Emmett Street, Kissimmee. Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, April 18th at 11 a.m. at Kissimmee Christian Church, 415 N. Main Street, Kissimmee, FL. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Kissimmee.
